仙桃草概述
为玄参科植物仙桃草带虫瘿的全草，春、夏间采集果未开裂的全草（以带虫瘿者为佳），剪去根，拣净杂质，晒干或用文火烘干。
生于潮湿的荒地、路边，在西南可达海拔3000米处，果实扁卵形，似蟠桃，又获“仙桃”、“蟠桃”之名，其果实内常有小虫寄生，夏至后，虫从穴孔而出，化为“小蚊”，故称蚊母草。
仙桃草各家论述
据《救荒本草》记载：“活血止血，消肿止痛。主吐血，衄血，咯血，便血，骨折，跌打损伤，瘀血肿痛。”
仙桃草性状
【性味】 味甘，微辛，性平。
【归经】 归肝，胃，肺经。
须根丛生，细而卷曲，表面棕灰色至棕色，折断面白色。茎圆柱形，直径约1mm，表面枯黄色或棕色，老茎微带紫色，有纵纹；质柔软，折断面中空。叶大多脱落，残卵的叶片淡棕色或棕黑色，皱缩卷曲。蒴果棕色，有多数细小而扁的种子。种子淡棕色，有虫瘿的果实膨大为肉质桃形。气微，味淡。以虫瘿多、内有小虫者为佳。
