为夹竹桃科鸭脚树属植物鸡骨常山，以根、叶入药，于秋冬挖根，洗净晒干或鲜用；夏季采叶，晒干。
鸡骨常山各家论述
《全国中草药汇编》记载：“解热截疟，止血，止痛；主疟疾，口腔炎，内服兼外用治骨折，跌打损伤。”
鸡骨常山性状
【性味】 味苦，性凉，有小毒。
【归经】 归肺，肝经。
根呈圆柱形，稍弯曲，常有分枝，长10-25cm，直径1.5-3cm，表面暗棕色或灰褐色，皮部薄，常脱落，木部白色。质坚硬，难折断，折断面裂片状，类白色。气微，味苦。枝多切成厚约1mm的斜片。老枝直径6-8mm，外皮灰褐色，具纵纹，皮孔细小，突起，断面中心髓部细小而中空，木部白色；嫩枝较细，青灰色，外皮易剥离，髓部中空较大。叶轮生，多皱缩卷曲，展平后呈椭圆状或卵状长圆形至披针形，全缘。气微，味苦。
