为硫酸盐类石膏族矿物石膏或为碳酸盐类方解石族方解石，石膏采出后选出粉红色、灰白色、块状或纤维状集合体，即药用红石膏。方解石采出后多选无色、透明或白色解理状块体，即药用寒水石。寒水石是一种矿石中药材，清热泻火药。
