为列当科植物肉苁蓉的干燥带鳞叶的肉质茎，多于春季苗未出土或刚出土时采挖，除去花序，切段，晒干。肉苁蓉素有“沙漠人参”之美誉，具有极高的药用价值，是中国传统的名贵中药材。
肉苁蓉（种植）各家论述
《本草汇言》记载：“肉苁蓉，养命门，滋肾气，补精血之药也。男子丹元虚冷而阳道久沉，妇人冲任失调而阴气不治，此乃平补之剂，温而不热，补而不峻，暖而不燥，滑而不泄，故有从容之名。”
肉苁蓉（种植）性状
【性味】 味甘，咸，性温。
【归经】 归肾，大肠经。
呈扁圆柱形，稍弯曲，表面棕褐色或灰棕色，密被覆瓦状排列的肉质鳞叶，通常鳞叶先端已断，体重，质硬，微有柔性，不易折断，断面棕褐色，有淡棕色点状维管束，排列成波状环纹。气微，味甜、微苦。
