隔山消，一般指白首乌，为萝藦科植物隔山消的块根。秋季采收，洗净，晒干。
古籍记载，白首乌用于晚唐，盛行于早明，沿用至今。中国白首乌的95%出产在江苏省滨海县，滨海是中国唯一首乌之乡。滨海白首乌区别于传统药材何首乌，滨海白首乌为保健草药，以保健为主，因其温补宜人，且具有无毒副作用，因此可用於日常服用，滨海当地的人们多为早茶或下午茶食之。
白首乌各家论述
《山东中药》记载：“为滋养、强壮、补血药，并能收敛精气，乌须黑发。治久病虚弱，贫血，须发早白，慢性风痹，腰膝酸软，性神经衰弱，痔疮，肠出血，阴虚久疟，溃疡久不收口。鲜的并有润肠通便的作用，适用于老人便秘。”

【性味】 味甘，微苦，性微温。
【归经】入肝，肾二经
干燥块根呈圆柱形或类球形，表面黄褐色，多皱缩，栓皮易层层剥离。质坚硬，断面白色，粉性，气无，味苦甘涩。
