别名 须丸、赤土、丁头代赭、血师、紫朱、赭石、土朱、铁朱、钉头赭石、钉赭石、赤赭石、红石头、代赭
为氧化物类矿物赤铁矿的矿石，始载于《本经》，原作“代赭”，
《别录》曰：“代赭生齐国山谷，红青色，如鸡冠有泽，染爪甲不渝者良。”
代赭石各家论述
据《本草经疏》记载；“代赭石，其主五脏血脉中热，血痹、血瘀、贼风及女子赤白漏下，带下百病，皆肝、心二经血热所致，甘寒能凉血，故主如上诸证也。甘寒又能解毒，故主腹中毒也。”
代赭石性状
【性味】 味苦、甘，性平，无毒。
【归经】 归肝，胃，心经。
为不规则的扁平块状，大小不一。全体棕红色或铁青色，用手抚摸，则有红棕色粉末沾手，表面有圆形乳头状的突起，习称"钉头代赭"，另一面与突起相对处有同样大小的凹窝。质坚硬，不易砸碎。断面显层叠状，且每层均依钉头而呈波涛状弯曲。无臭，无味。在砖上摩擦显红色。
