根圆柱形，略弯曲，有的有分枝，根头部稍粗大而扭曲，表面暗灰棕色或暗紫褐色，有明显沟纹；质硬而脆，折断时有粉尘，断面浅灰棕色至暗紫褐色，可见放射状纹理。气微，味苦、微麻。
