为猕猴桃科植物猕猴桃的根或根皮，全年可采，洗净，晒干或鲜用，生长于林内或灌木丛中，广布于长江流域以南省区，北至西北地区。
猕猴桃根各家论述
《陕西中草药》记载：“清热解毒，活血消肿，抗癌。主疮疖，瘰疬。”
猕猴桃根性状
【性味】 味甘，涩，性凉，小毒。
【归经】 归心，肾，肝，脾经。
商品多切成段，棕褐色或灰棕色，粗糙，具不规则纵沟纹。
切面皮部暗红色，略呈颗粒性，易折碎成小快状，布有白色胶丝样物（粘液质），尤以皮部内侧为甚；木部淡棕色，质坚硬，密布小孔（导管）；髓较大，髓心呈膜质片层状，淡棕白色，气微，味淡、微涩。
