石仙桃附生于海拔890—2100米的林中、溪谷边或林地边缘的树干上、岩壁上或山林下具腐殖质的岩石上，文献记载石仙桃含有虫漆蜡醇、环石仙桃醇、环石仙桃酮、β-谷甾醇、
4个酚类成分和4个其他类型的化合物等多种成分，有一定的药理作用和特定的用途。

石仙桃性状
【性味】 味甘，微苦，性凉。
【归经】 归肺，肾经。
根茎粗壮，下侧生灰黑色顶根，节明显，节上有干枯的膜质鳞叶，肉质肥厚呈瓶状，卵形或长圆形，表面碧绿色或黄绿色，具5-7条纵棱或光滑，基部收缩呈柄状，有的被鞘状鳞叶，顶端生叶2枚，多脱落而留有呈内外套叠的“V”形叶痕；叶片革质，较厚，椭圆形或披针形，先端渐尖，基部楔形，收缩成柄状，具数条平行叶脉，其中3条明显而突出于下表面；花序顶生，多已干枯，气微，味甘、淡。
