为远志科植物瓜子金的全草或根。夏、秋间采集，洗净晒干。
瓜子金各家论述
据《分类草药性》记载：“走表散寒。主头风，开胃进食。”
瓜子金性状
【性味】 味苦，微辛，性平。
【归经】 归肺，胃，心经。
根圆柱形，稍弯曲，直径可达4mm，表面黄褐色，有纵皱纹，质硬，断面黄白色。茎少分枝，长10-30cm，灰绿色或灰棕色，被细柔毛。
叶皱缩，展平后呈卵形或卵状披针形，长1-3cm，宽0.5-1cm，侧脉明显，先端短尖，基部圆形或楔形，全缘，灰绿色，叶柄短，有柔毛。
总状花序腋生，最上的花序低于茎的顶端，花多皱缩。蒴果圆而扁，长约7mm，具较宽翅，边缘无缘毛，萼片宿存。
种子扁卵形，褐色，密被柔毛，基部有3长裂的种阜。气微，味微辛苦。以叶多、有根为佳。
