Property
Pungent, salty, warm, slightly toxic; lung and large intestine meridians entered.
Actions
Dispel phlegm, open orifice and blockage, dispel wind and kill worms.
Indications
Stubborn phlegm obstruction of lung, cough and dyspnea with profuse phlegm, apoplexy, phlegm syncope, epilepsy, inflammation of throat with excessive phlegm, sore and swelling not ulcerated, skin tinea.

为豆科植物皂荚的果实或不育果实，前者称“皂荚”，后者称“猪牙皂”，秋季果实成热时采摘，晒干。生长于村边，路旁，向阳温暖的地方。全国大部分地区有分布。皂荚是医药食品、保健品、化妆品及洗涤用品的天然原料。皂荚刺（皂针）内含黄酮甙、酚类，氨基酸，有很高的经济价值。

【性味】 味辛，性温，微毒。
【归经】 归肺，大肠经
果实呈扁长的剑鞘状而略弯曲，表面深紫棕色至黑棕色，被灰色粉霜，种子所在处隆起，基部渐狭而略弯，有短果柄或果柄痕。两侧有明显的纵棱线，摇之有响声，质硬，剖开后，果皮断面黄色，纤维性。种子多数，扁椭圆形，黄棕色，光滑。气特异，有强烈刺激性，粉末嗅之有催嚏性，味辛辣。
