本品为豆科植物大托叶云实的干燥成熟种子。果实成熟时采收。

《本草经疏》记载：“温肾，逐寒。主肾寒病，胃寒。”
大托叶云实性状
【性味】 辛、涩，温。
呈不规则圆形，稍扁，有的一侧平截或有浅凹陷，表面灰绿色，光滑，微具光泽，有同心性环纹延及顶端。
一端有点状种脐，浅黄白色或浅黄棕色，其周围有直径2～3mm的暗褐色环纹。质坚硬，破开后，种皮厚约1mm，内面淡黄白色，有稍凸起的线纹；子叶扁圆形，黄白色,质坚，表面有不规则的沟槽，断面略平坦。气微腥，味苦。
