Origin
The mature pericarp of Zanthoxylum schinifolium Sieb. et Zucc. or Z. bungeanum Maxim. of family Rutaceae.
Location
Many areas in China, but the one at best quality grows in Sichuan province, and is also named as Chuan Jiao, Shu Jiao.

Collected in autumn.

花椒概述(温中止痛 杀虫止痒)
为芸香科植物青椒或花椒的干燥成熟果皮及种子。秋季采收成熟果实，晒干，除去种子和杂质。野生于路旁、山坡的灌木丛中，或为栽培。《神农本草经》记载：“主邪气咳逆，温中，逐骨节皮肤死肌，寒湿痹痛，下气。”

《药性论》记载：“主恶风，遍身四肢顽痹，口齿浮肿摇动；主女人月闭不通，产后恶血痢，多年痢。主生发，疗腹中冷痛。治头风下泪，腰脚不遂，虚损留结，破血，下诸石水，腹内冷而痛，除齿痛。”
花椒性状
【性味】 味辛，性温
【归经】 归脾、胃、肾经
花椒由1-2，偶由3-4个球形分果组成，每一分果直径4.5-5mm，自先端沿腹缝线或腹背缝线开裂，常呈基部相连的两瓣状。
分果顶端具微细小喙，基部大多具1-2个颗粒状未发育离生心皮，直径1-2mm。外表面深红色、紫红色或棕红色，皱缩，有众多点状凸起的油点。
内果皮光滑，淡黄色，薄革质，与中果皮部分分离而卷曲。果柄直径约0.8mm，被稀疏短毛。果皮革质，稍韧，有特异香气，味持久麻辣。
