续断概述
续断，又名和尚头，为川续断科多年生草本植物川续断的根，因能“续折接骨”而得名。生于土壤肥沃、潮湿的山坡、草地，于秋季采挖，除去根头及须根，用微火烘至半干，堆置“发汗”至内部变绿色时，再烘干。喜较凉爽湿润的气候，耐寒，忌高温，适于土层深厚、肥沃、疏松的土壤栽培。

《滇南本草》记载：“补肝，强筋骨，定经络，止经中（筋骨）酸痛，安胎，治妇人白带，生新血，破瘀血，止咳嗽咳血，治赤白便浊。”
续断性状
【性味】 味苦，辛，性微温。
【归经】 归肝，肾经。
呈圆柱形，略扁，有的微弯曲，表面灰褐色或黄褐色，有稍扭曲或明显扭曲的纵皱及沟纹，可见横裂的皮孔及少数须根痕；质软，久置后变硬，易折断，断面不平坦，皮部墨绿色或棕色，外缘褐色或淡褐色，木部黄褐色，导管束呈放射状排列。微香，味苦、微甜而后涩。
