水翁花为桃金娘科植物水翁的花蕾，喜生于水边，常栽于村落旁，于5月底至6月初，采摘带有花蕾的花枝。
水翁花各家论述
《岭南采药录》记载：“清热，散毒，消食化滞。”
《广西药植名录》记载：“主头痛，跌打，蛇伤。”
水翁花性状
【性味】 味苦，微甘，性凉。
【归经】 归肺，脾，胃经。
呈卵形或球形，两端尖，萼筒倒钟形或杯形，棕色至棕黑色，外表皱缩，有4条以上纵向棱突起，除去帽状体，见重叠的雄蕊，花丝棕黑色，中央有一锥形花柱。质干硬，气微香，味苦。
