飞龙掌血以芸香科植物飞龙掌血的根入药，生于山林、路旁、灌丛或疏林中，全年均可采收，挖根，洗净，鲜用或切段晒干。《分类草药性》记载：“散血破气，治风湿筋骨疼痛，吐血不止。”

《四川常用中草药》记载：“主痛经，经闭，血块，劳伤吐血，风湿麻木，筋骨疼痛。”
飞龙掌血性状
【性味】 味辛，微苦，性温，小毒。
【归经】 归心，肺经。
干燥根呈棒状，表面灰棕色，有细纵纹及多数疣状突起；突起处栓皮多脱落，露出鲜黄色或红黄色皮层，质粗糙；剥去皮层，可见木质中柱，纹理平直细密；质硬，不易折断，断面平坦。气微，味淡。
