据《陆川本草》记载：“凉血，散热，解毒，利尿。主疮疖肿痛，痢疾，小便不利。”
狗肝菜性状
【性味】 味甘，微苦，性寒。
【归经】 归心，肝，肺经。
根须状，淡黄色，茎多分枝，折曲状，具棱，节膨大呈膝状，下面节处常匍匐具根。
叶对生，暗绿色或灰绿色，多皱缩，完整叶片卵形或卵状披针形，纸质，先端急尖或渐尖，基部楔形，两面无毛或稍被毛，以上表面叶脉处较多，叶柄长，上面有短柔毛，有的带花，由数个头状花序组成的聚伞花序生于叶腋，叶状苞片一大一小，倒卵状椭圆形，蒴果卵形，开裂者胎座升起，种子有小疣点。气微，味淡微甘。
