为苦木科植物臭椿的果实，8-9月果熟时采收，除去果柄，晒干。分布遍及全国各地。

凤眼草性状
【性味】味苦，涩，性凉。
干燥的翅果矩圆形，扁平，两端稍卷曲，长3.5～4厘米，宽1～1.2厘米，黄褐色，微现光泽，表面有细密的脉纹，膜质，中部具一条横向的凸纹，中央突起呈扁球形，内含种子一枚，少数翅果有残存的果柄。种子扁圆形，种皮黄褐色，内有两片黄绿色肥厚的富油的子叶。味苦，种子尤苦。
