冬凌草为唇形科植物碎米桠的全草，生于山坡、灌木丛、林地及路边向阳处，于秋季采收，洗净，晒干。
冬凌草因其植株凝结薄如蝉翼，形态各异的蝶状冰凌片而得名，全株结满银白色冰片。

冬凌草性状
【性味】 味苦，甘，性微寒。
茎基部近圆形，上部方柱形，表面红紫色，有柔毛；质硬而脆，断面淡黄色。叶对生，有柄；叶片皱缩或破碎，完整者展平后呈卵形或卵形菱状，先端锐尖或渐尖，基部宽楔形，急缩下延成假翅，边缘具粗锯齿；上表面棕绿色，下表面淡绿色，沿叶脉被疏柔毛，气微香，味苦、甘。
