为瑞香科植物芫花的根，秋季采挖，除去泥土，晒干。
芫花根各家论述
《分类草药性》记载：“主风湿筋骨痛，跌打损伤。”
芫花根性状
【性味】 味辛，苦，性温，有毒。
【归经】 归肺，脾，肝，肾经。
根长者可达10cm，主根直径0.6-1.5cm，有分歧，外表黄棕色至黄褐色；根皮富韧性。茎直径至1cm，暗棕色；枝细长，褐紫色，幼时密生绢状短柔毛。
