为大戟科白桐树属植物白桐树的根或叶，秋季采，洗净晒干，叶可鲜用。
丢了棒为半荫性植物，生长需50%荫蔽度，喜高温高湿，气温在30℃，年降雨量1200mm以上，空气相对湿度70%的环境则生长繁茂。对土壤要求不严，以土层深厚，腐殖丰富的壤土为佳。《本草求原》记载：“主一切风湿酒风。”

丢了棒性状
【性味】 味苦，辛，性微温，小毒
【归经】 归脾，肾经
茎枝圆柱形或类方柱形，表面红棕色至紫棕色或棕褐色，上有细纵纹，无毛。
茎上具略突起的环节，对生两个向下弯曲的钩或仅一侧有钩，形如船铺，先端渐尖，基部稍圆。钩基部的枝上可见叶柄脱落后凹点及环状的托叶痕，体轻，质硬。横截面外层棕红色，髓部淡棕色或淡黄色。气微，味淡。
